Alpaca Felted Mitten Class
Sunday, November 16, 1-5 pm

Alpaca mittens are fun to make. In this class we will make a basic
alpaca mitten that will fit well and the pattern can be adapted to any
size from a child to an adult.
We
will use double pointed needles throughout. If you are proficient with
the magic loop needle, you can use it for this class. You will learn
how to hold stitches on waist yarn and pick them up to make the thumb.
The
pattern will use worsted weight yarn. If you use alpaca and knit the
mittens large, you can felt (shrink) them to fit by washing them. This
will produce a tight, very warm fabric.
Mittens make great gifts and
you can make a pair in one weekend. In this class we will finish one
mitten and cast on the second.

Easy Lace Alpaca Scarf:
Sunday, December 7, 1-5 pm

Description:
In
this class you will learn a variation of the old Feather and Fan
pattern. It is a 20 stitch repeat that can be made as large as you want
by adding multiples of 20. You can use any kind of yarn (bulky yarn not
recommended) and any size needles. With this simple pattern you can
make a beautiful summer shawl by using large needles and a fine yarn
such as baby alpaca.
After you master the Feather and Fan, you can try a more complicated pattern. You will learn how to read a lace chart.
If
you have always wanted to try lace, this is the perfect class. We will
also discuss lace knitting and look at books for pattern ideas. If time
permits, we will try a few different patterns.
This class is for the any beginner who can knit and purl. These make fantastic holiday gifts!

style of yarn, available for purchase at the farm. Large needles and
thinner yarn will show off the pattern very well.10% discount on

Coming Soon:
Sock Knitting Workshop

Description:
Now is your chance to learn how to knit socks. Socks are fun to knit and you can make a pair in a weekend!
This
workshop will take you through your first sock, step-by-step,
row-by-row, and get you started on the second sock. You will learn how
to turn a heel. It’s easy when someone shows you how. The pattern we
will use is for a ribbed sock made with two strands of sock yarn held
together throughout.
This class is for the knitter with some
experience, the advanced beginner. We will use a set of 5
double-pointed needles (DPN). If you have never used DPN you it is
helpful to practice with them before coming to the workshop.
The
pattern will fit a woman or a man. If the socks are not for you, bring
the foot measurement of the recipient (the length in inches from the
heel to the big toe).
Don’t be afraid of socks. Take the plunge. Jump in. The water’s fine!
Supplies:One
5-needle set of double-pointed needles, size 3. Bamboo needles are
strongly suggested. (Metal needles slip out of the stitches and can
make knitting your first pair of socks a frustrating experience.)
One larger needle, any style (circular, straight, or double-pointed),
size 4 or 5 for the cast on row.
Yarn/Sock
yarn – enough for 4 socks because you will be using two strands held
together. You could use a self-stripping yarn and a solid together for
a nice heather look. You are welcome to purchase your own yarn, or buy
alpaca yarn at Island Alpaca's farm store. A 4 ounce skein should be
suitable for one pair of socks. 10% discount on supplies, day of class.
Registration: Contact instructor, Anna Marie D'Addarie @ 508-274-9696
Class Fee: $45 plus cost of yarn, 10% discount on supplies, day of class.
