Thank you to the Y for hosting such a wonderful event!

A special thank you to Emily J. Galligan, M.A. Ed., Director of Marketing and Public Relations
YMCA of Martha's Vineyard for adding your images to our collection!

Finding a parking place at the YMCA on Saturday around mid-day was a challenge, thanks to the popularity of Healthy Kids Day, a three-hour expo and intro to all kinds of physical activities, indoors and out. Approximately 400 Islanders stopped by to see what was going on and sample some of the fun.

Part of a national YMCA initiative, the event is designed "...to teach good health for kids and inspire a lifetime love of physical activity." To do this, the Y encourages parents "...to make play dates with their kids every day as a simple way to become a healthier, more active and connected family." Every day. On Saturday, the Y offered demonstrations and sample classes in Zumba, ballet, hip-hop, yoga, Capoeira, Jujitsu, Taekwondo, and swimming. Exhibit space was offered to local organizations that stress physical activity, such as Vineyard Youth Soccer, Red Cross, Sail MV, Little League, Vineyard Youth Tennis, and Island Grown. And then there were several activities that were just fun — pony rides, face painting, basketball, and a Bounce House. It all added up to a swarm of people from knee-high to nearly decrepit feeding off the energy of the bright wide-open spaces inside the building and the bright, wide-open spring day outside.
