Island Alpaca First Born 2014 - September 2014
Bella Notte gave birth to a beautiful bay
black female Sept. 1st at around 8:45 am. Staff members
noticed Bella acting unlike herself at around 7:15 am. She was away from
the herd, going to the bathroom multiple times, pacing,
and just looked overall uncomfortable. Soon, she was pushing and before
we knew it this little girl was born into the world.
Seconds after
being born she was already trying to get on her feet. Eager to stand and
get some of mom's delicious milk. Within 15 minutes she was already
practically standing on her own and soon after was nursing very well. A
fast learner with a wonderful attitude! After a drink she was eager to
explore her new world, running around looking for new things to
discover. By late afternoon she was fully dry, so we weighed her... 19.2
pounds. Quite a big baby! No surprise there since her mother is quite a
large alpaca herself. Mom and baby are doing very well together.
This baby was given the name Bijou and she continues to grow and do well!
